At the beginning of the summer, I told myself I would find one of those "Senior Year Bucket Lists" and try to accomplish every task on it--with the exclusion of doing anything illegal or anything that would get me suspended, expelled, and or arrested--within the 180 days following September 7th, 2011, my first day of school. At this point, I have not found one of sufficient substance or value, so I've decided to try something different that would still allow me to accomplish something over the course of the school year. Other than completing my final year of school.
So I've decided to write a diary. Not a daily one, exactly. I won't write 365 entries. I'll only write 180, one for every school day of the year, including sick days. Every day that students are called to classes, there will be an entry.
I've also gone back ad forth between writing all of this down or doing it vlog-style. For the time-being, I'll stick with writing, since it's something I actually have some knowledge about the written word. Not a lot, mind you...just more than video editing...
But one thing that I could not come to a conclusion with is whether or not to keep this whole affair private, in a traditional journal, or spill my beans to the Internet. Some part of me wants to still keep it private, as one's Senior year is a unique and one-of-a-kind experience. On the other hand, there is not a more universal experience, one that connects many people generations over....Obviously, I chose the latter. In the end, I figured this whole experience was one that I could use to connect to other people. I could help them...or maybe just ask for help from them...as we all go through this exiting time together.
That's what I want to do for the rest of my life. Help people. And write. So I guess this is good practice. I'll get to write every day. I have a deadline. I'll get to help people (maybe). And maybe learn a thing or two about myself. After all, isn't that what you're supposed to do in high school?
(Further details will come in about a week, the night before I start this whole adventure, with full guidelines and expectations. Once I figure them out.)

It's days like these...
...that I am reminded that it is, technically, still summer vacation. It's 80 degrees out and sunny. I didn't get out of my pajamas until noon. I've been watching movies on my couch in my basement since 9 this morning. At the same time, I've been doing summer AP English homework that's due at midnight tonight. Not that 'll stay up until midnight, seeing as I have to wake up for week 2 of band camp tomorrow morning at 6 a.m.
My last band camp ever.
It being my senior year and all, I know I'll have this tendency to be overly sentimental about things because, let's face it, I'm a sentimental person. That having been said, I have no idea whether to be super sad or super excited that this is my last camp...Gonna have to think about that one for a while...Might as well enjoy it. If I don't, to some extent, I'll regret it later...
It's also days like these that I realize how old I am.
That sounds weird.
Relatively speaking, though, I'm not old. Not really. I'm 17 years young and, hopefully, have many more years ahead of me. However, as a part of the aforementioned movie marathon, I've been watching a lot of movies that came out and were popular when I was about 8 or 9 (Holes, The Lizzie McGuire Movie, Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius). I was still in elementary school when these movies came out. It's kind of interesting watching movies that have previews for films that had 2003 release dates. It's nice that films can transport a person to a time when things were much simpler for them. I feel special, like I am in a small and somewhat elite group of people, for remembering a time when these characters were great figures in our lives...and yet they're now they're collecting dust in the backs of our minds.
It's days like these that I still feel old, since I know the coming months for me will bring things that kids even two or three years my junior don't even have to worry about: senior presentations, graduation, getting into college, finding money for college...
But I guess it's days like these that I begin to appreciate the time off and being lazy...'cause I know it won't last forever.

Eves
We all grow up with this instinct to be excited the night before something happens (i.e. Christmas Eve, New Years Eve, the night before your birthday, the night before school starts). Whether we know it or not, every day is an eve to something, but you don't necessarily now what it is until it happens when you wake up. You may have a pop quiz in school. You may get into a car accident. You may fall in love. You may lose someone who is close to you. But you never know...until it happens.
Today is an eve, of sorts, for me. Tomorrow morning starts band camp, my last band camp of high school, possibly ever. With waking up starts two full weeks of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. marching and music. I'm allowed but one solid week of "relaxation" between the end of camp and the start of school before the whirlwind begins yet again. Sports events, concerts, practices...not to mention our big trip to Hawaii in December. I have no doubts in my mind that this year will be amazing, it being my Senior year and all. But I don't know that, do I?
I guess I 'll just have to wake up and see.

The Nitty Gritty Stuff
Some things that you (maybe) would want to know about me:
- I am about to start my senior year of high school.
- I am a music geek. I am a member of my high school's instrumental program. I play the flute in concert band, piccolo in marching band, and guitar in jazz band. I am also kind of a general music geek. I am know for having a rather...ahem...bipolar selection of music on my iPod.
- While I am planning to go on to college, I have no idea as to what I want to study. I've been bouncing back and forth between English literature and music history and literature/music education. If it were a more popular degree option, I would probably study music theory.
- Regardless of what I choose to study, I want to write. I've been writing probably since I was able to hold a pencil/pen/crayon/marker in my hand and express (semi)complete thoughts.
- I'm an avid reader. Don't ask me what I like to read. I'm not even sure I know myself. I'll read just about anyting and everything.
- I also watch a lot of movies. I'm a sit-inside-on-a-rainy-afternoon-and-watch-movies-and-drink-coffee-or-hot-chocolate kind of girl.
- I want to travel. I've been kind of stuck in my own corner of the country for the past 17 years, and I feel a desperate need to get out and see the world. I hope this blog will allow me to do that.
